Hauntology

A haunted house is just a house, is just a house, is just a house, is not a home.
It is a manor of forgotten pasts,
The walls graze the clouds,
the doors lure passersby in.
A haunted house is not a home,
But a pay-per-view experience.
The cost is a little love,
And a lot sanity.
A haunted house is just a house
With an active exorcism within.
The exorcist visits Thursday nights at 1am, and stays for about an hour.
A haunted house is just a house with a very stable facade.
The exorcist explains to the resident;
The ghost is…foundational
The ghost will tell you stories
Of all the lives this house has seen,
Will convince you of your doomed fate,
Because men have come and men have perished
The ghost thinks she is protecting you,
The ghost likes it dark,
The ghost likes it lonely,
because she knows all too well the fate that befalls reckless women.
She used to be one.
The resident sees a reflection of the ghost in her bedroom mirror,
A half smile, dewy eyes, terror residing between her eyebrows,
She tracks mud into the house every night.
Only the ghost and the exorcist can leave,
Because they always come back
The resident planned an escape,
A way to shimmy down the drain pipe
On to the green grass under the willow tree,
But as soon as her naked feet touch the dirt she is convinced,
a haunted house is not a home,
but it is her’s
There is no escape
In her deep slumber she sees the cracks in the walls letting the light in,
Someone tall enough jumps over the walls and gives the resident a little love,
Tolerates a lot insanity
Awake, the exorcist assures her she will see the break of dawn one day,
But until then, the exorcist remarks, remember this:
A haunted house is just a house, is just a house, is just a house.
