Dear Love

Dear love,
Fleeting, forever fragmented love.
I had asked you the last time we talked,
Why am I so afraid of something
I’ve never even experienced?
Why does every cell in my body
Scream wolf at the slightest glimmer of you?
I say I am excited by possibility,
Grateful for the course my life has taken,
Grateful that I feel safety within the four walls of my room.
I built this safety brick by brick
But is it keeping me from you, love?
Do I hold you at arm's length, love?
Because the stones that came in
through my window disguised as you,
They left scars, love.
I’ve decorated you with flowers
I’ve thrown mud at you,
I’ve declared you useless, love
I’ve lived without you far too long, love
There are flowers and there is mud,
But to you, love, it's all just a garden.
