I’ve been in small spaces before

Elevators and cupboards,

Under beds

In closed bathrooms

In the dark

I’ve been in small spaces.

But never so scared before

Under a fist

In a hole

I’ve been there

And felt so big

Felt like I occupied space

Felt like I encompassed universes before

Like I was the Milky Way

Pouring into their mouths

Overflowing into their hands

I’ve been in small spaces.

Pushed us against a wall

As space gets smaller

As hunger gets bigger

Space closing in between the walls

I’ve been in small spaces

Pushed up against a wall

But never suffocated like this

Never in a closet

Hiding my big feelings

In a small space together

but so far away from her

But never felt small in them
